Our local host, Wits Journalism, has identified a number of quality hotels in the city and negotiated discounts for attendees. Available group booking codes are listed in descriptions of the hotels below. We expect heavy attendance and rooms will fill up, so book early if you can.

Southern Sun Hyde Park Sandton (4 stars)

Southern Sun Hyde Park hotel’s 132 deluxe rooms feature a range of amenities, including iPod docks, DVD players, mini bars, and in-room tea and coffee facilities. The hotel has 318 bedrooms consisting of standard single rooms, sharing/double rooms, deluxe rooms, a few suites, and some wheelchair access rooms. 

Guests can also make use of the convenient 18-hour room service, porter service, and wake-up call facility. The hotel is walking distance of the Rosebank Mall and the African Craft Market that offers visiting guests a wide array of shopping and dining options. Prices start from US$140 (R1,800) per night.

The discounted rate of R1,600 (USD119) per night, valid for bookings made before October 15th, is only available for 60 rooms and for arrivals on November 14th and departures up to November 20th. The Devonshire Hotel is in the rejuvenated Braamfontein district, close to our conference venue at Wits University. It’s also nearby major attractions such as the Nelson Mandela Bridge, a variety of Museums and the Johannesburg Zoo

City Lodge Newton

Situated in the vibey area of Newtown on the western side of Johannesburg’s bustling CBD, the hotel is seven storeys and comprises of a mini-gym, a swimming pool, a coffee shop and a bistro-style lounge.
